The Bombay high court refused to discharge businessman Gautam Khanduja in the 2004 abetment-to-suicide case of 1997 Miss India winner Nafisa Joseph, ruling that sufficient grounds exist to proceed.
Joseph died by suicide on July 29, 2004, after Khanduja allegedly called off their engagement following disputes over whether he was divorced from his previous wife.
Justice MM Sathaye observed that whether Khanduja's refusal to marry and withholding of divorce papers constituted abetment must be decided at trial.
