FIFA Faces Global Backlash Over 64-Team World Cup Proposal

FIFA's proposal to expand the World Cup to 64 teams and sell minority stakes to private investors has triggered a major standoff with continental governing bodies.

UEFA has unanimously voted to boycott FIFA events unless the private investment plan is dropped, while CONCACAF and the Asian Football Confederation have also formally rejected the proposal.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has set a deadline of September 19 for the 211 member federations to support the plan, which involves potential funding from Thrive Eternal.
