Pope Leo XIV was diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma and underwent a 90-minute surgery at Rome's Gemelli Hospital to remove the lower lobe of his right lung.
The nodule was detected during routine checks, and the Vatican confirmed the pontiff had no symptoms of infection or illness prior to the procedure.
The Pope's schedule has been cleared until October 20 to allow time for recovery ahead of his planned early November trip to Latin America.
