An experimental personalised cancer vaccine developed by Moderna and Merck reduced the risk of melanoma returning by 42% when added to standard treatment after surgery.
The vaccine, named intismeran, uses mRNA technology similar to COVID-19 vaccines and is tailored to each patient's tumour.
Researchers are also conducting advanced trials of experimental personalised vaccines using mRNA and other approaches against lung, kidney, and pancreas cancers.
