Haldwani police registered an FIR against Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi on August 30, 2026, following a complaint regarding his comments on a purification ritual at Ramlila Ground.
The case was filed under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, and sections 196 and 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, based on a complaint by 26-year-old Amit Kumar.
The complainant, an office-bearer of the Shri Ram Sena Dharmarth Seva Nyas, alleged that Gandhi falsely characterized a havan ritual as an act of untouchability during an August 29 press conference.
