Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh reported that 40 percent of the state's population suffers from hypertension, exceeding the national average of 35.5 percent.
The state also reports a 14.3 percent diabetes prevalence rate, ranking fourth in India, while obesity among women has increased from 24 percent to 30.7 percent.
Cancer prevalence in Punjab is recorded at 75 to 90 cases per 1,00,000 people, which is lower than the national average of 100 to 110 cases per 1,00,000.
