Ebola Outbreak in Congo Reaches 3,262 Confirmed Cases

Congo's Ministry of Health reported 3,262 confirmed Ebola cases as of July 28, 2026, with 1,437 deaths recorded in the ongoing outbreak centered in Ituri province.

The current outbreak, declared on May 15, has reached nearly the same case count in 10 weeks that the 2018-2020 epidemic accumulated over approximately two years.

Health officials face significant containment challenges due to the Bundibugyo virus lacking approved vaccines, alongside ongoing rebel violence and strikes by health workers protesting unpaid wages.
