A study of 2,19,866 adults published in the Journal of the American Heart Association links post-traumatic mental health conditions to a higher risk of fatal and non-fatal cardiovascular events.
Researchers found that alcohol use disorder was the most significant psychiatric predictor of major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events for both men and women between 1995 and 2019.
The study identified 15 key mental health predictors, including PTSD, depression, and anxiety, which contribute to long-term heart and brain health risks following traumatic life experiences.
