Microsoft Investigates Mouse Cursor Bug in Windows 11 Update

Microsoft confirmed that the optional Windows 11 update KB5120998, released August 27, 2026, causes mouse cursor personalization settings to revert to default or change size.

Users have also reported desktop wallpaper resetting to black screens following the installation of the update on both 24H2 and 25H2 versions.

Microsoft currently recommends that affected users manually uninstall KB5120998 via Settings to resolve the cursor and wallpaper issues while the company investigates.
