A study of nearly 3 million women published in Diabetologia found that those with endometriosis have a 46 percent higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
The research, conducted between 1996 and 2021, indicates the association is strongest among premenopausal women and those without obesity, particularly in cases of extra-pelvic endometriosis.
While the study shows an association rather than direct causation, researchers suggest that chronic inflammation from the condition may impact metabolic health, warranting earlier screening for high-risk patients.
