The Orissa High Court ruled that Article 21's right to life and human dignity extends to foreign nationals, ordering the repatriation of 23 stranded seafarers.
The seafarers had been abandoned aboard the Cameroon-flagged tanker MT Unity, which has been under arrest at Paradip Port since May 11 over commercial admiralty claims.
The court directed the Centre and maritime authorities to replace the crew, facilitate their disembarkation, and ensure their safe return within three weeks.
