The Lok Sabha Secretariat issued notices on August 25 to 20 rebel Trinamool Congress MPs, requiring them to respond within seven days to disqualification petitions filed by Abhishek Banerjee.
The petitions, originally filed on June 18 and 19, allege that the MPs violated the anti-defection law by joining the Tripura-based Nationalist Citizens Party of India.
The Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, agreed on August 24 to hear a plea seeking an expeditious decision on these disqualification proceedings against the rebel group.
