Ireland's Data Protection Commission fined Alphabet’s Google €403 million following an investigation into its processing of user location data.
The inquiry, opened in 2020 after complaints from European consumer rights organizations, focused on how location data influenced targeted advertisements and user profiling.
DPC Deputy Commissioner Graham Doyle stated that Google's extended retention of location data caused users to lose control over their personal information.
