Statin Use Linked to 15% Lower Dementia Risk in Diabetics

A study published in The Lancet Regional Health – Europe on September 1, 2026, found that statin use in type 2 diabetes patients is associated with a 15% lower risk of dementia.

Researchers from the University of Copenhagen observed that patients who began statin therapy earlier following their diabetes diagnosis experienced even greater risk reduction.

While the study is observational, it suggests that optimizing lipid-lowering therapy could serve as a preventative measure against cognitive decline in high-risk diabetic populations.
