Thousands of citizens and activists gathered at Lalbagh Botanical Garden on Sunday to demand the withdrawal of the Karnataka Parks (Preservation) (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
The proposed legislation would allow the state government to alienate or lease up to five per cent of park land for public utility and infrastructure projects, including tunnel roads.
Protesters, including environmentalist A N Yellappa Reddy, submitted petitions to Chief Minister D K Shivakumar urging that Lalbagh be declared a construction-free zone to protect the city's remaining green cover.
