The UK government announced that its 'one in, one out' migrant pilot scheme with France to return small boat arrivals has been officially scrapped.
Since its launch over a year ago, only about 1,500 people were removed to France under the agreement before it stopped processing new cases.
Between January and September 27, 2026, a total of 19,135 people crossed the English Channel in small boats, marking a 42% decrease compared to the previous year.
