European Commission proposal aims to restrict social media access for under-15s

The European Commission is preparing the EU Kids Act proposal that could restrict children under 15 from creating and using accounts across digital services, social media, and AI chatbots.

Under the tiered age-access plan, children aged 13 to 14 would require parental involvement for social media, while those aged 3 to 12 would have accounts controlled entirely by parents.

Tech platforms would face stricter age-verification duties, restrictions on engagement features and recommendation feeds, and potential supervisory fees to fund enforcement.
