Tamil Nadu power discom relies heavily on state financial support

Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited has received ₹2.55 lakh crore in government aid through tariff subsidies and grants over the 14 years since 2013-14, according to a CAG report.

Annual financial assistance averaged ₹18,130 crore, with the state government mandated to absorb the discom's full losses starting from the 2021-22 fiscal year.

The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam-led government has stated it will not pursue an upward power tariff revision, leaving the state to absorb additional stress from regulatory assets.
