Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay moved a resolution in the state assembly urging the Centre to maintain the current 543 Lok Sabha seats.
The resolution demands the Centre keep the Lok Sabha-Rajya Sabha ratio at 2.2:1 and implement 33% women's reservation within the existing 543 seats.
The state government argues that delimitation based on post-1971 census data would unfairly penalize southern states that have successfully implemented population control measures.
