The roof of a private three-storey school in Peshawar's Dir Colony collapsed on Thursday, killing 29 children aged 13 or younger and one teacher, and injuring over 40 people.
Police arrested the school owner for operating the institution as an educational trust in a poorly constructed building where 30 students were present on the upper floor.
Emergency was declared at Lady Reading Hospital, and rescue operations continued as officials reported more children were buried under the rubble.
