Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel informed the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday that the government has directed drug regulators to monitor the supply chain and marketing of GLP-1 drugs.
The CDSCO issued advisories on March 10 and March 27, 2026, prohibiting surrogate advertisements and ensuring these drugs are only dispensed via prescriptions from endocrinologists or internal medicine specialists.
The regulatory crackdown follows concerns over misleading awareness campaigns and the inappropriate use of GLP-1 receptor agonists, which are officially approved only for Type 2 diabetes and specific weight management.
