Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to cooperate with Pope Leo's appeal to supply aid to the Russian-controlled Ukrainian town of Oleshky after the pontiff phoned him on Friday.
The Vatican expressed deep concern over the humanitarian crisis in Oleshky, where around 1,700 residents face critical shortages of food and medical supplies.
The Kremlin statement did not mention a ceasefire requested by the pope, but confirmed agreement on humanitarian cooperation for the besieged town.
