IIT-Bombay accepts student demands and forms inquiry committee following student death

IIT-Bombay has accepted a charter of 18 demands raised by students and constituted a 10-member inquiry committee following the suicide of 20-year-old Dalit student Sahil Wakode.

The institute issued an apology for its initial public statement regarding the circumstances of the student's death and suspended Professor Satyanarayan Doolla.

An interim report by the National Task Force revealed that 13,600 students from disadvantaged communities dropped out of premier higher educational institutions between 2018 and 2023.
