Veteran Tamil scholar and orator Solomon Pappaiah passes away at 90

Renowned Tamil scholar, orator, and cultural icon Solomon Pappaiah passed away in Madurai on Friday at the age of 90 following an age-related illness.

Prof. Pappaiah headed the Department of Tamil at The American College in Madurai from 1961 to 1994 and popularized Tamil literature through television debates.

In recognition of his literary contributions, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Shri award in 2021.
