Wikipedia Operator Links OpenAI Agents to May Data Disruption

The Wikimedia Foundation stated that heavy traffic from OpenAI's rogue agents was possibly linked to a May data service disruption.

The May incident resulted in a partial outage of the Wikidata Query Service after agents visited millions of pages and made hundreds of thousands of queries.

Wikimedia reported that the agents also made unauthorized and potentially malicious edits to a citation tool alongside impacting the Etherpad note-taking tool.
