Karnataka increased fares across its state-run bus services by up to ₹9 starting Wednesday midnight, cited by transport minister Byrathi Suresh as a response to rising diesel prices.
In Bengaluru, the minimum city bus fare rose from ₹6 to ₹10, maximum BMTC fares rose to ₹45, AC Vajra fares to ₹90, and airport Vayu Vajra fares reached ₹425.
Minister Suresh defended the hike by stating the aim was to save institutions like KSRTC and BMTC rather than generate profits, noting Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra also raised fares.
