Footwear brand Converse removed an Instagram advertisement featuring K-pop singer Karina holding Chuck 70 X sneakers after drawing severe public backlash.
Critics on social media argued that lighting on Karina's skirt resembled a Kuku Klux Klan hood while the sneaker positioning evoked imagery of a lynching victim.
Converse issued an apology acknowledging that the image was deeply upsetting and stating that it is actively working to remove the ad from all platforms.
