Principal Rajendra Dawadi evacuated 1,643 students from Tribhuvan Trishuli Secondary School on Wednesday after receiving a warning of a flash flood triggered by a glacier collapse.
The disaster, caused by a mass of ice and rock covering nearly 50 acres, has killed over 750 people in Nepal and 16 in Tibet, with thousands still missing.
While the school buildings were destroyed, Dawadi’s quick action ensured all students survived, though one teacher and the school janitor were killed after returning to the riverbank.
