Robert Hall and Michael Woodford were awarded the 2026 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences for microeconomic foundations of macroeconomic stabilisation.
The committee recognized their advancements in answering questions regarding economic stability and consumption smoothing originally shaped by Keynesian theory and Milton Friedman.
Hall demonstrated using empirical data that food consumption is relatively more sensitive to permanent-income shocks than to temporary-income shocks.
