A 19-year-old medical aspirant died by suicide in Maharashtra's Ahilyanagar district on July 25 after failing to qualify the cutoff in the NEET-UG re-examination held on June 21.
The student scored 166 marks in the re-exam, falling 10 marks short of the 177-mark category cutoff, according to her family members and preliminary investigations by the Karjat police.
The re-exam was conducted for 2.27 million aspirants after the original May 3 examination was cancelled due to a question paper leak, an event that triggered widespread protests across the country.
