Nepal has requested that India advance electricity import approvals to September 2026 to address a 550-megawatt generation deficit caused by recent flash floods.
The disaster damaged critical power infrastructure, reducing cross-border power flow to India by approximately 400 MW from previous peaks of 950 MW to 1,000 MW.
Indian Power Ministry officials stated that the national grid has sufficient reserve margins to absorb the shortfall without impacting domestic supply or requiring emergency procurement.
