Old Monk manufacturer Mohan Rocky Springwater claimed losses exceeding ₹500 crore after the FSSAI restricted sales in Maharashtra over product labelling.
During a Bombay High Court hearing, FSSAI counsel Anil Singh stated sales would be permitted only if the manufacturer labels the product as 'rum-like' instead of 'rum'.
The manufacturer stated the sales ban in Thane district halted production for 300 workers and caused a state excise revenue loss of about ₹350 crore.
