New Ebola Vaccine Trials Launch Amid Congo Outbreak

The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has reached over 4,000 infections and 1,800 deaths, marking it as the world's second-largest on record.

Clinical trials have launched for two vaccine candidates, Oxford University and Serum Institute's ChAdOx1 BDBV and Moderna's mRNA-1469, with initial results expected by late September or early October.

The Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations is backing four candidates to combat the Bundibugyo strain, which has no currently approved vaccines and is spreading rapidly across north-eastern and eastern DRC.
