The Supreme Court asked the CBSE on September 17, 2026, to consider deferring its three-language mandate for Class 6 students to the next academic session starting in 2027.
Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati informed the Bench that the CBSE will review the suggestion and submit a fresh note on the issue.
The policy aligns with the National Education Policy 2020 and requires students to study three languages, including at least two native Indian languages.
