Dinesh Sharma Appointed Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands

President Droupadi Murmu appointed 62-year-old BJP Rajya Sabha MP and former Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma as the Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Sharma succeeds Admiral D K Joshi (retd), who has held the position since October 8, 2017, and will assume his new office effective from the date he takes charge.

Currently serving as the vice chairperson of the Rajya Sabha, Sharma's term in the Upper House was originally scheduled to conclude on November 25.
