Sunakar Nayak, headmaster of Ambura Government Primary School in Kendrapara, was suspended on Wednesday for consuming alcohol on duty and locking 35 students inside the campus.
The incident occurred on Tuesday when the headmaster, who was the sole teacher present, locked the main gate and fell asleep, requiring local residents to rescue the children.
Derabish Block Education Officer Madan Mohan Kar confirmed the suspension following a departmental inquiry that substantiated the allegations of misconduct by the teacher.
