US Halts East Coast Airport Flights After Fiber Line Cut in New Jersey

The Federal Aviation Administration halted flights at busy East Coast airports in New York, Philadelphia, and Boston on Monday after a fiber cable was cut at a construction site in New Jersey.

Ground stops were issued for John F. Kennedy, LaGuardia, and Teterboro airports as 130 world leaders arrived in New York for the United Nations General Assembly annual meeting.

Flight-tracking sites reported that over 20 percent of flights at Newark and Philadelphia were delayed, averaging 112 minutes of delay, while some airlines permitted fee-free flight changes.
