Global PISA 2025 assessment records record lows in math and reading scores

Learning levels among 15-year-olds in major education systems have fallen, with OECD average reading scores dropping by 28 points and mathematics scores falling by 22 points since 2015.

The PISA 2025 assessment covered over 760,000 students across 91 countries, recording the lowest average performance so far across core subjects and revealing that reading declines began before the pandemic.

Asian nations such as Singapore and Chinese provinces including Beijing and Shanghai emerged as top performers, while excess digital device use was associated with weaker student outcomes.
