The Odisha government constituted a commission on Wednesday to study numerical strength and political representation of socially and educationally backward classes in local self-government institutions.
The panel will be headed by retired Odisha High Court judge Justice Pramath Patnaik, with Sujata Mishra serving as member-secretary.
The decision holds significance as panchayat and urban local body elections are scheduled to take place across the State next year.
