The West Bengal government closed down 933 state-aided primary, upper primary, and secondary schools that recorded zero student admissions over recent years.
School Education Minister Dipak Barman stated that district magistrates have been directed to verify the institutions and assess infrastructure viability.
The committees must submit consolidated reports within 30 days on whether to revive the schools or repurpose their assets for alternative public facilities.
