Police have filed 15 FIRs and arrested three senior Khasi Students’ Union leaders following a black-flag bike rally in Shillong that resulted in widespread vandalism and assault on Wednesday.
The violence led to the damage of at least 31 vehicles, the burning of two government vehicles, and the alleged desecration of statues of Swami Vivekananda and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
The KSU protest, which targeted government recruitment reforms and the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act, prompted Cabinet Minister Wailadmiki Shylla to urge the union to pursue dialogue instead of agitation.
