Chennai to host historic Big Bash League season opener in December

Cricket Australia will host the opening match of the 16th Big Bash League season at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium on December 12, featuring the Perth Scorchers against the Melbourne Renegades.

The cross-border fixture was finalized following a bilateral government initiative between India and Australia to strengthen ties through cricket.

BBL league operations head Phil Rigby confirmed that the match will feature league-specific rules such as the Power Surge and the designated hitter framework.
