The Miami-Dade County School Board voted on June 17 to close or consolidate nine schools ahead of the academic year starting August 13.
The district reported a loss of 15,288 non-charter students between the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 school years, contributing to a total enrollment decline of 38,702 students across Miami-Dade and Broward since 2023.
Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn indicated that Broward County may also close more than 10 schools in the 2027-2028 academic year to address ongoing budget and enrollment challenges.
