A four-day wildlife survey conducted across three Kerala sanctuaries added 36 new species to existing checklists and documented 395 total species of birds, butterflies, and odonates.
Led by the Forest and Wildlife Department in association with TNHS from October 8 to 11, the survey covered Chimmony, Peechi-Vazhani, and Chulannur sanctuaries.
Researchers recorded 24 Western Ghats-endemic species, including 165 birds, 174 butterflies, and 56 odonates, underlining the landscape's high conservation value.
