The Democratic Republic of Congo received 16,250 doses of the Ervebo vaccine on Friday to combat an outbreak of the rare Bundibugyo Ebola virus.
The current outbreak has recorded 2,516 deaths out of 5,290 confirmed cases, with transmission rates potentially reaching three times current levels according to the Africa Centre for Disease Control.
Containment efforts are currently hindered by armed conflict, attacks on medical personnel, and a lack of infrastructure, complicating the distribution of the 70,000 total doses pledged by the WHO.
