Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi became the stand-in captain for East Zone during the Duleep Trophy semi-final against Central Zone in Bengaluru on Sunday.
The teenager assumed leadership after regular skipper Ishan Kishan was forced off the field due to a right wrist injury sustained while wicketkeeping during the 19th over.
Sooryavanshi, who has scored 215 runs in nine first-class matches, previously gained attention for his 776-run IPL season and his Player of the Series performance against Zimbabwe.
