
The death toll from the ongoing monsoon floods in Assam has reached 85, with 1.35 lakh people still affected across the state as of August 3, 2026.
A local class 10 dropout has been credited with rescuing 2,000 people, while the government has announced a six-month loan relief for borrowers in the four worst-hit districts.
Authorities are intensifying relief operations as the state continues to battle the monsoon fury, which has also impacted regions in Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, and Maharashtra.
