Ladakh will not get statehood, to receive unique elected body under Article 371

Ladakh Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra stated that Ladakh will not receive statehood or a legislature-backed UT, but a sui generis model with legislative, executive, and financial powers.

During a meeting on September 9, the Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance discussed the proposed structure under Article 371 and direct constituency elections.

Ladakh leaders criticized the talks as a waste of time and money, claiming the Home Ministry and UT administration are not on the same page.
