Data highlights gender disparity in organ transplantation in India

Data from the National Organ and Trust and Tissue Transplant Organization showed women made up 63.8% of living donors from 2019 to 2023.

During the same five-year period, men accounted for 69.8% of total organ transplant recipients in the country.

Experts note that women's donation decisions are heavily shaped by sociocultural expectations, family structures, and economic pressures.
