The Maldives government approved a $20 billion investment by Abu Dhabi-based firm Eagle Hills to construct a marina, homes, and hotels on reclaimed land in Ras Male.
The 500-hectare development aims to combat rising sea levels on coral islands, though the government did not specify when construction would begin.
Officials stated that the project could generate over 54,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities over its lifetime.
